The accessibility statement applies to the websites published under the following domains and was drafted/edited on February 27, 2023: www.stiftung-gedenkstaetten.de, www.buchenwald.de, and www.dora.de.
As a public body as defined by EU guidelines 2016/2102, we (Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation) make every effort to provide our websites in compliance with applicable accessibility regulations. As a source of orientation, we use the Barrierfreie-Informationstechnick-Verordnung (BITV 2.0) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1). We are subject to the following regulations:
Which portions of the website are not or not completely barrier-free accessible?
Due to a lack of funds, the website could not yet be assessed by barrier-free testers. The following overview is based on the assessment of the project team. A comprehensive quality control by an accessibility consulting firm and a reworking of the site based on the results are planned for future updates.
Audio files: Only a text alternative (transcription) is available for audio components, no enhanced subtitling.
Videos: There are no videos with English subtitles and a number of videos only have automatically generated German subtitles. Video do not have extended audio descriptions or full-text alternatives.
PDF documents: None of the downloadable content (regulations, brochures, flyers) is barrier-free. We are making our best efforts to provide barrier-free PDFs as soon as possible.
Sign language: Two informational videos in German Sign Language, which provide information about the services offered at the two memorial sites of Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora, are currently being produced and will be added. The 48 previously recorded audio contributions on the life stories of individuals interred in Buchenwald will not be translated into German Sign Language, since this constitutes a "disproportionate cost burden."
